Village of West Unity

As Mayor of West Unity, I would like to give you a little more information about our great community.

West Unity is home to almost 1,700 people and a rest stop to many travelers on the Ohio Turnpike. Over the past few years West Unity has more than doubled in size with two recent annexations – the property for the new school and the two Ohio Turnpike plazas.

There are five churches in West Unity. They are not only places to worship, they provide many services such as free meals, free coats, a local food pantry, seasonal farmer’s market and financial assistance with basic needs.

Downtown consists of the village offices and police department, a bank, the post office, a library, chiropractor, two gas station/convenience stores, furniture stores, a drugstore, hardware, building supply, several offices, massage therapy, beauty shops, day spa, a Laundromat and dentist. There are also several eating establishments where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner – or just ice cream for dessert if you prefer.

Other businesses include a funeral home, a guns and ammunition store, garage door facility, insulation and glass blowing.

Manufacturing and industry in the West Unity area include automotive, plastics, tool and die, adhesives and machining.

A new K-12 school building was constructed within the last few years and although it is no longer on a hill it is home to the Hilltop Cadets. The faculty and staff continue to strive to fulfill their mission statement and provide a quality education for the students.

Service organizations in the area include the American Legion, Lions Club, Three Arts Club, Omnibus Club, Antique Tractor Club and the Red Hat Society.

There are several parks in West Unity. Memorial Park is the largest. During the summer you will find lots of activity to enjoy as either a spectator or participant including baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball or tennis. The Wabash Park located on South Main Street has a horseshoe pit as well as playground equipment for children and Friendship Park located in the downtown area is a place to sit and visit.
